DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: The majority of business took place on
Tuesday last week, with scattered deals here and there on
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Southern live trade had a
range of $136 to $139, mostly $138, $2 lower than the prior
week's weighted averages. Northern dressed deals had a full
range of $223 to $228, mostly $226, $3 lower than the previous
week's weighted average basis Nebraska. According to
Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Summary reports the
accumulated weekly average price totals are as follows (the
prior week's weighted averages are listed in parentheses): KS
$137.85($139.96); NE $225.77($229.07); TX $137.85($139.68); IA
$226.10($228.46); CO $141.33($144.00).
According to the Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter
Cattle reports weekly trade volume totals were: KS 14,289; NE
22,935; TX 7,508; IA 29,268; and CO 955. Friday's slaughter
totaled 123,000 head, 3,000 more than the prior week and
4,000 greater than a year ago. Saturday's kill was estimated
at 58,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 680,000 head,
23,000 above the previous week, and 8,000 up from 2021. The
weekly averages for boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef cuts:
choice $261.03(+4.08), select $245.79(+2.61), with an average
choice select spread of $15.24(+1.47), and a total load count
including cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 525(-221). Changes
from the prior week are listed in parentheses.
For the week ending May 14, 2022, Imported Beef Passed for
Entry in the U.S. totaled 51,010, 100.50% of the previous week
and 103.15% of the 4-week average.
DTN MORNING COMMENTS: It will likely be another quiet Monday
with bids and asking prices not established as of yet, as both
packers and producers are busy taking inventory. Significant
trade volume will likely be delayed until Wednesday or later.
Beef cutouts are expected to be mixed with generally light box
movement.
